ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A major road construction project in Arlington has caused a headache for drivers and left some businesses struggling to keep up their cash flow.

Construction signs are now a staple along Abram Street.

Crews are working to complete phase one of the project that runs from Stadium Drive to South Collins Street.

Drivers told CBS11 they're perplexed on which streets are closed to traffic and where the detours lead.

"It's annoying and frustrating," said driver and Arlington resident, Angel Rosario.

Some businesses owners in the area said the road expansion project has hurt them over the past few months.

"It's a ghost town around here," said Dollar Store owner Ahmet Karami. "My sales are down 70 to 80 percent."

Robert Bronson has a window tinting shop in the area and said he's trying to practice patience with drivers and sales.

He hopes the construction will ultimately pay off for everyone.

"We are just kind of hanging on for this year," said Bronson. "It's like a rebuilding year I guess."
