ARLINGTON (CBS11) - Local sports fans put in some long hours Sunday with both the Cowboys and the Rangers playing at home.

It turned out to be a rough day for local fans, but when the day began they were full of hope.

With about seven hours of combined game time, a few more hours of tailgating, and however long they had to wait in traffic, fans made up their minds to make a whole day of it.

When both of your favorite teams play next door to each other with little time to spare in between games, Rob Schoendienst and Craig Derrick will tell you the key is pacing yourselves.

The two were among several fans who made up their minds not to miss either game.

"Get it started early.  Go to the football game like we're doing, and you just walk right next door, right to the Rangers.  Go Rangers.  Go Cowboys," Derrick said.

Traffic spiked as the first game wound down.  Cars filled the streets as disappointed Cowboys fans looked next door for a better outcome.

"It's not always that we have the opportunity to walk across the street after one game finishes, and this is a great game for the Rangers coming up.  We can take the series today," Angie Torres said as she left the Cowboys game to watch the start of the Rangers game at Globe Life Stadium.

In the end it wasn't the sweep fans hoped to see, but on a positive note, die hard fans could finally get some rest before making it back out to Globe Life Stadium for the next game Monday afternoon.
