NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A new twist on an old but deadly drug -- liquid methamphetamine -- is now pouring into and through the metroplex.
The highly addictive narcotic is stored in plastic bottles and can resemble soda. Drinking the drug is potentially deadly for users. Some addicts soak paper in liquid meth, then put it on their tongues.
A spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Agency said they have caught smugglers passing through North Texas on their distribution route.
"It is our biggest and number one drug threat coming across the southwest border right now," he said. Some criminals are storing the drug in dual tank pick-up trucks; using one tank for fuel and another for the meth. It's a dangerous, combustible way to transport the drug.
Police in Baton Rouge confiscated three dozen bottles of liquid meth from the suitcase of a Houston woman who was on a commercial bus headed to Atlanta.
