Lice Bugging You? Meet Liceology
PROSPER (CBSDFW.COM) - They're tiny bugs, but they've taken over an entire household in Prosper.
"I noticed something crawling in her hair brush," said Robin, the mother of a 10-year-old girl who has had lice for the past week. She didn't want to reveal her last name to protect her daughter.
Robin has spent hours coming out lice and disinfecting every surface in her home.
"All the cleaning," she said. "Every night I've washed her sheets. I vacuumed her bed, the car, all the carpets. It's overwhelming, very overwhelming."
Robin tried over-the-counter remedies that claim to kill lice. She even tried home remedies. She slathered mayonnaise on her daughter's hair and spraying it with Listernine. Nothing worked. Finally, Robin discovered Liceology, a company that gets rid of the bugs for you.
"It is really nice to help people," said Ashli Scott, one of the Liceology's founders.
Scott and her co-founder Summer Steel use a heat-emitting lousebuster machine that kills the bugs and eggs. They also comb through the hair with special tools. Most of all, they use a lot of patience.
After about and hour and a half of treatment, the clients are lice free. Liceology offers a two-week guarantee. If the lice return within two weeks, the next treatment is free.
Robin is hopeful her daughter wont' suffer anymore embarrassment or itchiness.
"People think dirty people get it," she said. "That's just the perception you have."
In fact, Scott said lice are more attracted to clean hair, and anyone can get it.
"I hope we never have to go through this again," Robin said.
