Latest Drought Update for North Texas...

LATEST DROUGHT UPDATE… Jan. 5, 2012

Here is the latest information on the drought for North Texas and the state of Texas.  The worst drought conditions remain in the southern and western part of the state.  There has been some improvement in the Panhandle and here in North Texas thanks to some rain the past several weeks.

Here is a map of the state showing the different classifications of drought.  The dark red, which is the Exceptional Drought category, is the worst classification of drought and means where the drought is at its worst.  (Click on the map to enlarge)

Here is a close up map of North Texas.  Parts of Dallas, Tarrant, Wise and Rockwall County are once again this week, not considered in the drought.  That is one of the reasons why Dallas and most counties have lifted Burn Bans.  But the southern part of North Texas from Cleburne to Waxahachie to Athens and south remain in a Severe to Extreme Drought.

Here are the numbers for the state of Texas.
