Lantana Passes Petition Asking For Traffic Tickets

DENTON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A first of its kind petition restores the ability of the Denton County Sheriff's Office to write traffic citations in the community of Lantana.

The petition drive followed a 2010 ruling by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott that said Lantana and other similar districts did not have the authority to adopt and enforce traffic regulations on the streets inside their communities. All they needed to do was have 50 percent of the property owners sign the petition which would allow it to be presented for consideration.

In Lantana, 2000 residents signed the dotted line. The petition only covers current roads..so any new neighborhoods will also have to circulate a petition requesting county enforcement of traffic laws.
