Josh Brent Trial Postponed Until 2014
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Former Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent's intoxication manslaughter trial was postponed until January 2014.
The 25-year-old is accused of driving drunk during the Dec. 8 crash in Dallas that killed Jerry Brown, his friend and a Cowboys' practice squad player. He faces 20 years in prison if convicted.
Brent's trial was scheduled to begin Nov. 22, but that's a holiday in Dallas County, for the observance of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
A grand jury in Dallas added a charge of manslaughter against Brent last month. Brent's attorney, George Milner, said he wasn't surprised by the additional count being added, which could allow a jury to find Brent guilty without finding that he was intoxicated.
Following the accident, Brent was placed on the Dallas Cowboys inactive list until he retired from the NFL in July to focus on his legal troubles.
