Irving Homeowners Bracing For Next Quake

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - With a reported 12 earthquakes in nearly a 24-hour span in the Irving area, homeowner are now bracing for the next movement.
"I thought that somebody had fun into the house with a car," said Jack Campbell, who's lived in Irving for nearly 40 years.
While he has been through tornados and floods, for the first time Campbell has to check his home for earthquake damage.
He and his wife Laurel said with 12 earthquakes in nearly over a day, they are not sure how much their home can take.
"With the more intensity that they're seeing, I feel like that it could have some damage to our house," said Laurel Campbell.
Irving-based residential contractor John Miliara said he had been getting calls and questions over how best to prepare homes for earthquakes.
"I'd be mindful and cautious of it now that we've been having them. If you're going to be building new, I'd start having that in the back of my mind," said Miliara.
Miliara said there is not much in his opinion that can be done for existing homes. He said for new homes being built, they should have deeper foundations, beefed-up framing or doubling up on structure beams.
"Any time you over strengthen things, you don't lose your money. It's just going to help in the long run," Miliara said.
