Irving Crash Leaves Power Lines On Freeway
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - The westbound lanes of State Highway 114 were shut down in Irving early Tuesday morning after a car crash left power lines draped across the road. The incident started at around 1:00 a.m. along the freeway's service road near O'Connor Road.
A car traveling along the service road somehow struck a set of wires which were holding a power pole in place. The crash caused those power lines to hang down significantly lower across the highway. Soon afterward, an 18-wheeler came along and snagged those power lines, causing them to snap.
The power lines were down across all of the westbound lanes of the freeway and the westbound service road, forcing law enforcement officials to shut down the entire side of the highway until the area was made safe again.
However, as this was happening, another 18-wheeler struck an Irving Police Department squad car that was parked at the scene. The officer was not inside of the vehicle at the time, fortunately, so nobody was injured. In fact, there were no reports of anyone being hurt throughout any of this incident.
