DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Family and friends gathered today to say a final goodbye to Marisol Espinosa. The Dallas mother's remains were found under a bridge earlier this month.
Hundreds of people attended the service at St. Edward's Catholic Church on Elm Street in Dallas. A number of people at the funeral said they did know Espinosa, but that her story touched them and they wanted to pay their respects.
Espinosa was last seen on December 29, 2015 as she headed to her job at a hair salon in the NorthPark Center shopping mall. She never arrived. Three days after her disappearance, Espinosa's SUV was found abandoned at an apartment complex in the Pleasant Grove area. The doors were locked and her purse and belongings were still inside.
Human remains were discovered on March 6, as animal activists searched a remote section in the Trinity River Bottoms near Dowdy Ferry Road. It was two days later that officials at the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the remains were Espinosa's.
During the funeral Monday Espinosa's cousin called her the "glue" that kept family together. Several family members in friends sitting in the sanctuary wore t-shirt that said "justice" on the back -- giving a not so subtle message that the death of the mother of three is not the end of her story. Police are investigating the 34-year-old's death as a homicide, but so far have names no suspects or made any arrests.
Espinosa's ex-boyfriend, Faustino Valdez, was the last person to report seeing her, but he has since disappeared, raising the family's anger and suspicion.
