Higher Humidity Helping Texas Wildfire Crews

DALLAS (AP) - Higher humidity readings in West Texas have given an assist to crews battling wildfires in the arid reaches of West Texas.

Federal firefighting team spokeswoman Diane Steltz said no structures were lost or threatened on Sunday as firefighters continue attacking 14 major fires that cover almost 1,100 square miles across the state. However, she said no new fires have sprung up during the weekend.

As of Sunday morning, most of the remaining fires were at least 90 percent contained and all but one at least 70 percent contained. The wildest fire was one in rugged terrain along the Devil's River about 35 miles north of Del Rio that had consumed 235 square miles.
