High-Speed Police Chase After Son Steals Father's Car
ELLIS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - After leading Ellis County deputies on a more than 30-minute chase along I-35 Tuesday, the 22-year-old fleeing suspect was caught as he crashed a stolen car into a ditch.
Charles Ziebolz of Red Oak was booked Tuesday evening for evading arrest with a vehicle, interfering with an emergency call, and for possession of marijuana.
The chase started shortly before 6:00 pm Tuesday when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home in rural Ellis County.
The man at the home told deputies his son had stolen his Chevrolet Cavalier. When deputies tried to stop the suspect he sped-off, according to the Ellis County Sheriff's Office.
"That's the reason we were pursuing him at the time," said Lt. James Saulter. "As well as knowing that we've had dealings with him in the past and that there had been weapons involved in the past. He was just arrested last week and had a knife in his possession."
The high speed chase nearly reached downtown Dallas before the suspect turned around and started heading back south on I-35E.
Eventually, on a rural road in Ellis County a deputy pulled up next to the suspect who then crashed into ditch.
At least one vehicle was hit during the chase but the Ellis County Sheriff's Office said no one was injured.
