High School Students Among Six Killed In Car Crash

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Three of the six people killed in a Sunday night single car crash in Oak Cliff attended Kimball High School in Dallas.

Five of the six victims range in age from 15 to 23-years old.  The sixth is believed to be a 4-year-old.  Police have not yet identified the victims.  However, family members of 16-year-old Trey Woodberry confirmed he is one of the victims in the crash.  They say he played football at Kimball and used the nickname "Hollywood." Family members also confirmed Desedric Johnson and Kentron Haskins were among the deceased.

In a written statement, DISD said counselors would be on Kimball's campus and two other schools to help students cope with the results of the tragic crash.

Police say excessive speed is the primary factor in the accident that cost six young people their lives.

"It was like a "boom!" It was almost like a crash," described Arethea Rhodes, who watched with her grandsons as police and paramedics tried desperately to save the lives of the two still alive at the scene.

"When the last fire truck came up, he came out with the blue blankets and he was covering and I'm like, 'Oh, my God, it's four of them laid out,' and two already left in two ambulances," she said.

The two victims transported to Baylor Medical Center and were pronounced dead shortly after they arrived.

According to law enforcement officials, the driver lost control of the vehicle while heading southbound on Bonnie View Road. The vehicle struck a curb with a rear tire and then hit the median on the opposite side of the road, smashing into a tree on the passenger side.

Rhodes and her grandsons were among dozens of people came by and left tokens of respect at memorial that sprang up at the tree where the car came to rest.

Keke Jackson, who also visited the memorial on Monday, said one of the passengers was a childhood friend.

"It's something you can't really believe because he's young.  I wouldn't even think they'd be speeding, I don't know.   I just can't believe this is going to happen; it's crazy," said Keosha Jackson, who said one of the passengers was a childhood friend.

David Grant was at the scene last night, but didn't know until he looked on social media that a friend was among the victims.

"I really didn't see the face until I really looked on Facebook.  It really hurt," he said.

He remembered the 23-year-old as a woman full of humor.

"She's fool, goofy.  She's quiet---she stayed to herself.  She never messed with anybody."
