Heavy Rain Later This Week & Lots Of Wind

HEAVY RAIN EVENT POSSIBLE LATER THIS WEEK…

A large upper level storm system will slowly work its way out of the Southwest US this week and bring us multiple rain chances.  Rain chances begin on Thursday and continue all the way into Sunday morning with several rounds of heavy rain likely.  Rainfall totals could end up being over 4" in many locations by the time it is over and if conditions were to set up just right, much more rain than that is possible.

WINDY WEATHER BEFORE RAIN BEGINS…

WIND ADVISORY FROM TUESDAY AT NOON UNTIL 7PM TUESDAY EVENING

Winds will get very strong tomorrow as low pressure develops in the plains.  Winds will gusts to 40 mph tomorrow out of the south.  Winds continue to brisk on Wednesday with gusts to 30 mph.  Temperatures remain mild with highs in the 70s tomorrow and Wednesday.  Clouds will increase on Wednesday and a few spotty showers will be possible on Wednesday.

THURSDAY RAIN CHANCES AND POSSIBLE SEVERE WEATHER…

A cold front will slide south into North Texas on Thursday with the arrival of some of that upper level energy from the big upper level low.  This will result in widespread showers and thunderstorms.  The severity of the storms still is yet to be determined.  Several factors will have to be accounted for… first cloud cover and ongoing rain during the morning may limit the instability in the lowest levels of the atmosphere.  Second, temperatures may not warm much during the day on Thursday because of the cloud cover.  Thirdly, the arrival of the cold front might come in the morning instead of the afternoon which would heighten the potential for stronger storms.  That being said the robustness of this upper level system will certainly aid itself into seeing a few strong to severe storms with likely large hail and high winds being the main concern.  The tornado potential does not look terribly high because of the above mentioned factors like cloud cover and ongoing rain.

RAIN OFF AND ON THRU THE WEEKEND…

Pieces of energy from this upper level system will continue to rotate over Texas.  Behind the cold front on Thursday it will turn cooler with temperatures only topping out in the 50s on Friday and Saturday with a cold rain falling both of those days.  There will likely be several waves of heavy rain during these times.  Rain will linger into Sunday morning before finally tapering off.

RAINFALL TOTALS WILL BE QUITE IMPRESSIVE…

As mentioned above rainfall totals look to be very high.  Here is what the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center is expecting for rainfall in North Texas.  This is just thru Saturday morning and does not include the potential rain that will fall on Saturday thru Sunday.  Note the 3.5" to 4+" bulls eye from Central Texas all the way to NE Texas.
