Heat Keeps Going
We are smack dab in the middle of a heat wave. This time of year its no surprise that we run into a streak of 100° days. Today was our fifth day in a row of it; we expect about 4 more. No Heat Advisory today but I suspect the advisories will return Tuesday or Wednesday.
The forecast includes a high on Wednesday of 104°. This would be the hottest day of the year so far. It can be worse than this around north Texas this time of year. The hottest day so far happened way back in late June. It was only the second time in the season we hit the three digit high, the bell-weather for hot weather in these parts:
Just compare the number of days it hit 103° or above this year with the last two:
The high pressure ridge sitting over us stays over us most of the work week. As it drifts a little south on Tuesday and Wednesday this might open the door for a weak cold front to make its way to the Red River. The rain chances it produces will stay confined to counties north of the metro area.
As we close the week the dome of high pressure shifts to the west a little. Compare its position now with where its forecast to be on Saturday:
We'll introduce meager rain chances for Saturday and Sunday, only 20%. The cap will still be in place so it'll be difficult to get some storms going. That said, there will be lots of moisture in the atmosphere above us. Where storms do develop they could produce very big rains in isolated areas.
Until then the baking continues. Hot and dry. North Texas in the summer.
