Hard Freeze Hits Some Areas Of DFW Overnight Saturday

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW) - Overnight lows Saturday will reach 27 degrees as a hard freeze covers areas north and west of North Texas.

Inside the Dallas – Fort Worth Area, lows should hit freezing levels, if not a degree above. Areas north and west of DFW will likely incur a hard freeze.

This is in line with typical patterns: The last freeze of the year usually happens around March 13, which is also the day we spring forward our clocks to Daylight Saving's Time.

As it currently stands, the last freeze occurred on Feb. 12, a full month early. If the Metroplex only hits 33 degrees as forecasted, the area could get through the Spring Equinox on March 20 without another threat.

For those with outdoor plans, temperatures will be much better Sunday. Highs will hover in the low 60s. Expect a sunny start with high clouds later in the day along with a southeast wind. It shouldn't be nearly as windy as it was Saturday, though.

On Monday, wind gusts could hit in the 35 mph range, creating a fire danger in some western counties. Dew points will also rise and temperatures should hit around 70 degrees.

Look for storms to roll into North Texas during Tuesday afternoon and evening. Severe weather is possible with this system, especially in the eastern half. Much needed rain in the area's western counties doesn't look promising.

Expect lows to dip into the upper 30s Wednesday and Thursday morning. Next weekend will see dry weather, and the area should be in the low 70s by Saturday.
