Haltom High School teacher resigns, turns himself in for allegations of having improper relationship with student, school officials say
A Haltom High School band teacher has turned himself in following allegations that he had an improper relationship with a student, Birdville ISD confirmed in a letter to parents and staff.
According to police records, Joseph Nguyen, 23, was booked into the Tarrant County Corrections Center on Wednesday, May 6, on a charge of improper relationship between educator/student after turning himself into the Haltom City Police Department.
Birdville ISD confirmed that Nguyen resigned in April and hasn't been on campus since.
In the letter to parents and staff, the district said that due to federal privacy laws, it can't share the specifics of the case. It also said there have been no reports of misconduct on campus and that no other students have been identified.
In addition to the police investigation, the district said that Nguyen has been reported to the Texas State Board of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
