AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry's first court appearance to face abuse of power charges has been pushed back a week to Nov. 7.

A judge in Austin last week had ordered the Republican to appear for a pretrial hearing Oct. 31.

But Perry attorney Tony Buzbee said Tuesday that the appearance has been delayed.

In August an Austin grand jury indicted Perry on charges he abused his official capacity and coerced a public servant.

Those stem from Perry's public threat and eventual decision to veto state funding for public corruption prosecutors. That came after the Democratic district attorney overseeing the investigative unit refused to resign following her conviction for drunken driving.

Perry's high-powered defense team has challenged the case on constitutional and technical grounds, and says it should be quickly dismissed.
