Garbage Piles Up Curb-Side Due To Error
It was kind of a stinky Monday in parts of Arlington, Southlake and North Richland Hills. Literally. All three cities told residents it was okay to put out the garbage even though Monday was the official holiday because Independence Day fell on Sunday this year.
Unfortunately, no one checked with Duncan Disposal, which serves the three cities. Duncan picks up on some holidays, including Memorial Day five weeks ago. But Independence Day is, in fact, a holiday for Duncan workers, so the trash just sat curb-side, festering in the heat as mercuries climbed into the 90s.
All three cities suggest that it was a misunderstanding or a miscommunication. They didn't realize Monday was a company holiday when they put out calendars or press releases saying there would be garbage pick-up.
