Taking self defense classes can bring a sense of inner strength and well being.  This Saturday from 10 am until noon the Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense will open the doors for a free self defense community event.

"We did a very large one several year ago when they were having the attacks in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas for over 1000 women" said 10th degree Black belt Professor Nick Chamberlain.

The event is free and open to the public.  You'll learn simple self defense as well as how not to be a victim.

"We are trying to teach you how to avoid the situations in the first place, but when you get to the point where you can't avoid the situation then how do you fight back to survive" Nick added.

The event is free and they are offering free child care as well at the Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts.  Children must be dropped off and picked up at the Conservatory.  The kids will be doing fun karate demonstrations as well from 9:30am-12:30pm.

JD Ryan is Around Town and breaking boards for the Genesis Women's Shelter.
