FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday will be voting on whether or not to establish a Historic Stockyards Design District to help with the redevelopment of the iconic Fort Worth Stockyards. The issue has already created a heated debate, as changes are set for the area.

If the council approves the task force, then the people who own property at the Fort Worth Stockyards will not be able to make their changes without following strict guidelines. For example, they will not be able to tear down buildings or structures which are considered the core of the Stockyards.

The goal here is to keep the charm of the Cowtown landmark.

This comes on the heels of a $175 million redevelopment project that is set to begin soon. The city council is expected to hire a consultant team to oversee the project. It is expected to include a hotel, a residential space, offices and stores. This project has been in talks for several months.

However, it will cost Fort Worth taxpayers an estimated $300,000 to hire the consultant and another $100,000 to hire a staff member to oversee the project.
