FORT WORTH, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) — We're learning new details about an officer-involved shooting in the South Hills neighborhood of Fort Worth on Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place at a residence in the 4900 block of Rutland Ave. on Jan. 21, 2023. Police Chief Neil Noakes said that officers arrived on scene after they got a call at 12:20 p.m. from a woman who said her brother was threatening her with a handgun.

About a minute after police arrived on scene, the woman's brother fled out of the back of the residence. Officers chased him, but he allegedly refused to stop.

Officers used a taser to try to get him to stop, but Police Chief Noakes said that taser deployment was "not effective". At this time, they do not know why the taser did not stop the man.

The Chief said the officers were then presented with a deadly threat from the man that "put them in fear of their life" and a 15-year veteran of the Fort Worth Police department fired at the man.

He was struck at least one time. Officers gave him first aid before he was transported to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. Police said a handgun was found on scene near the man.

"I'ts a sad situation anytime an officer is forced to use their weapon," said Chief Noakes. "It's a sad situation anytime anyone is shot but unfortunately these are the realities that officers face on a daily basis."

Police said the investigation into the incident is still in its early phase, and there are still a lot of questions as to why that taser did not work on the man and whether or not that man pointed the handgun at officers.

We'll bring you more details as soon as we get them.
