Forecast Discussion for May 5th

HEATING UP AND TURNING HUMID FOR THE WEEKEND…

The nice stretch of weather will continue into tomorrow, before the humidity really starts to increase over the weekend.  Tonight will be comfortable with lows in the upper 50s.  Tomorrow temperatures will warm into the low 80s.  Winds will start to pick up a little in the afternoon tomorrow.  They will be out of the south at 10 to 20 mph.  That south wind will begin to transport Gulf Moisture back into North Texas for the weekend.

WEEKEND HEAT AND HUMIDITY…

Temperatures on Saturday will warm into the upper 80s, but dew points will be increasing into the mid to upper 60s.  Dew points that warm means it will be quite muggy for us each day.  Mother's Day will be even warmer with highs in the low 90s.  Some forecast models are showing mid 90s on Sunday.  That could happen if the air mixes out in the afternoon allowing drier air to reach the surface from aloft.  Drier air can heat up much more than moist air.

NEXT WEEK'S STORMS…

An upper level trough of low pressure will deepen along the west coast over the weekend.  It looks like this disturbance will start to move east on Tuesday and Wednesday.  As the disturbance draws closer, the dry line may become active with storms.  Right now it looks like the CAP will hold on Tuesday, but on Wednesday the CAP should be weakened enough to allow for storms to develop.  Some of those will likely be severe.

RANGER'S WEATHER DAY…

Next Wednesday is also our 5th annual Rangers Weather Day.  Over 5,000 students from North Texas are expected at the ballpark for a unique weather presentation that begins at 10am.  Many experiments will be done to help explain the weather.  The game starts at 1:00pm.  The morning should be dry and I am hopeful that any storms that may develop in the afternoon on Wednesday stay west until the game ends.  Come out and join us if you can.  Here's where you can buy discounted tickets.
