First Heat Wave of the Season Coming!
Hot...and Getting Hotter!
A front along the Red River is generating a few storms to our Northwest, but nothing much in the Metroplex today. Unfortunately the front won't cool things off for us and the last chance we might see rain for the rest of the week will be Friday afternoon. Tonight the temps will cool down to 74° with the help of easterly winds 5-10 mph and partly cloudy skies. Friday morning will have light Northerly winds followed by winds reaching 10 mph from the East. The high is expected to reach 95° and we might see a small shower later in the afternoon.
As the weekend goes on, the temperatures get warmer and those triple digits are almost here! Saturday will have a morning low of 75° and high of 98° with Southeast winds 5-15 mph, then Sunday hits 100°. Skies will be sunny the rest of the weekend, so embrace the heat! A high pressure system is lingering above us, which is why we are not expecting any more rain for about a week and this is also what helps temperatures climp up to the lovely 100's. Monday through Thursday we will have highs in the low 100's and our morning lows will also rise to almost 80° Tuesday morning. We can expect sunny skies and Southeast to East winds ranging from 5-10 mph for the rest of next week.
What About July?
Here is the temperature outlook for July. The yellow and orange shaded areas are slightly above normal temperatures that we are expecting for the month of July. So far for the DFW area, the days where we were warmer than normal was only by a few degrees so don't let the large orange area scare you! Yes it will be warm, but not a huge temperature jump for us. Luckily only a small area over southern Nevada, western Arizona and southeastern California is predicting much warmer tempertures than normal.
Big News in the Drought Update
This is the drought update for the US Drought Monitor, and this is the first time in 18 months where no part of Texas has areas in the exceptionally dry category! All of the wonderful rain we have received over the past month has really helped, especially over the northeastern portion of Texas, which right now has no drought. Now we just have to see how the month of July will hold out with the intense heat.
Tropical Storm Debby Could Be Forming in the Gulf
There is a broad area of low pressure developing south of the Gulf of Mexico, which has the potential to turn into a tropical storm. The system is predicted to move into Central Gulf of Mexico within the next day or so and with the help of upper level winds the disturbance can develope into a tropical storm. One computer model takes the storm into Florida over the weekend. But another reliable model keeps the storm over the Gulf until late next week, when it could move into the lower Texas coast. Right now, nobody knows where this one is going so stay tuned!
