Firefighters battle flames after at least 30 cars catch fire in Grand Prairie, officials say

Grand Prairie fire crews extinguished at least 30 cars that were on fire in a commercial area in the record-breaking heat on Sunday, officials said.

The Grand Prairie Fire Department said the crews were called to the 1200 block of E. Avenue J around 3:45 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the back parking lot and noticed dozens of cars were involved.

The department said additional crews were called to contain the fire and protect the surrounding area; no injuries have been reported and no buildings were involved.

The investigation into the fire is underway.
