FIFA Opens Bribery Case Against Sepp Blatter, 2 Others

ZURICH (AP) - The FIFA ethics committee says it has opened a formal bribery case against former president Sepp Blatter and two others over million-dollar bonuses in their contracts.

FIFA revealed in June, after finance director Markus Kattner was fired, that he, Blatter and Jerome Valcke agreed to pay themselves bonuses worth tens of millions of dollars.

Ethics prosecutors say their investigation relates to bribery and corruption, accepting gifts and conflicts of interest.

The case involves "salaries and bonuses paid to Mr. Blatter, Mr. Valcke and Mr. Kattner as well as other provisions included in the contracts of these three individuals."

Blatter and Valcke, FIFA's former secretary general, are already serving ethics bans and face criminal proceedings by Swiss federal prosecutors.
