Fans Take Rangers Merchandise Sales To New Heights

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Not all businesses are cashing in on the Texas Rangers success with t-shirt and hat sales.

Greta Coomer has seen a lot of new business pop up during the Rangers play off run. "It'll just get busier and busier and they're going to keep wanting these," said Coomer as she pointed toward a table stacked with brightly colored 3-gallon tins with the Rangers logo on them.

Coomer sells popcorn at The Popcorn Store in Lincoln Square just down the street from Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. "Right now I'm pretty stocked up. But as soon as it leans towards they're going to keep going, I'll be getting more and more," Coomer said of demand for the popcorn.

Rangers related sales have been so successful for her, she even invented a special, red, white and blue "Rangers Mix" of popcorn. "Which is a sweet popcorn," Coomer said. "We just color it jersey colors and we sell a ton of it."

Normally, this is the time of year customers would come in looking for fall themed-items. Coomer has plenty of that merchandise too. But its not predominately displayed. The reason may sound 'corny' to some.... "Normally this would be my Fall/Halloween table," Coomer said pointing to the table stacked with Rangers-related items. "But I don't want to jinx the Rangers. "So this is going to stay the Rangers table until they win the World Series."

A little farther down the road, a car dealership is revving up a different idea: Rangers rally signs as an option on vehicles. On each corner of the lot vehicles have Rangers logos and the words "Go Rangers" applied in the same material as a pin stripe.

It started as the dealer's show of support for the ballclub, but salespeople say if a customer wants it they'll sell it to them as a $299 option. "The idea is an inspiration to Rangers fans."

"I just bought a '57 chevy in red," said Rangers fan Mike Conners as he looked at a picture of a red Jeep with the logos applied. "So, maybe I'll bring it out here during the game, put a "T" on the side of it. That's very nice!"
