Fans Pick Up Kyle Field Grass After Last Home Game
COLLEGE STATION (AP) -- Texas A&M fans who bought Kyle Field grass have been picking up their turf to make way for $450 million in stadium renovations.
The Aggies on Saturday wrapped up their 2013 home season by defeating Mississippi State 51-41. Hours later special equipment was used to skim the live grass from the football field for pickup Sunday.
Some fans posed for photos with a certificate of authenticity for the grass to be replaced by a new playing surface being grown off-site.
Online sales began Oct. 14 with a limited number of single squares of grass sold for $20 each. Each harvested pallet of about 450 square feet of sod went for $400.
Kyle Field's overhaul will expand seating from 82,600 to 102,500, making it the largest stadium in the Southeastern Conference.
