PLEASANT GROVE (CBSDFW.COM) - A family visiting a grave site in Pleasant Grove found it vandalized, with their memorials destroyed and burned.

Rebecca Grimes said she discovered the grave littered with trash and beer cans Saturday. The grave belongs to Hector Escobar, the father of her three daughters. The oldest, a 14-year-old, was the first to see it.

"She comes to the grave and she sees his grave all torn up. And I don't know why someone has so much hate. It hurt her real bad, and it hurt me real bad," said Grimes.

Grimes said the girls lost their father to suicide less than a year ago. Unable to afford decorations, they made some themselves and visit the site often to keep them up.

Grimes said after talking to staff at the cemetery, she learned there wasn't anyone to lock the gates after dark.

Thus, she has volunteered to do so and Tuesday night a CBS11 crew watched her close up.

Grimes said she has seen people at the cemetery late at night smoking and heard complaints from other families who have found things broken or missing from graves.

She hopes by pitching in she can put a stop to some of the damage so other families don't have to experience the same pain.
