DALLAS (CBS11) — An estimated 3,000 people watched a live broadcast of Pope Francis' final Mass on his U.S. visit from Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas.

"The next best thing to being there and seeing him is being here," said Chris Wilson of Plano.

Wilson said he would have loved to have been among the hundreds of thousands at the giant open-air Mass in Philadelphia Sunday, but even in Dallas he said he could sense the excitement for the pope.

"He's a great pope and is good for the Church," Wilson said. "It's an exciting time to be Catholic."

Bishop Kevin Farrell of the Dallas Diocese agreed that Pope Francis has re-energized many.

"This man is impressive," Farrell said. "I have met many popes, but none of them have ever impressed me and made me rethink about my life as much as Pope Francis has. He has spoken to all of us."
