DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency officials in northwest Dallas early Wednesday morning had to rescue a driver who got stuck in high water. This came after North Texas was pounded by powerful thunderstorms on Tuesday evening, leading to dangerous flooding situations in several area cities.
The driver got stuck just after 6:00 a.m. near the intersection of California Crossing Road and Wildwood Drive, and area that often goes under water during times of heavy rainfall. There are no streetlights nearby, and it was still very dark at this hour, so it would have been difficult to get a good idea of the actual water level.
Police explained that there is a dip in the road, and it did not take very long for water to collect into a pool. Officials stated that the water was about two feet deep.
A team with Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and was able to walk the stranded driver out to safety. The car remains stuck in the high water.
While rescue workers were at the scene, another man was found stranded in the floodwaters, sitting on top of his vehicle until help could arrive. He had lost his phone, so he was not able to call for assistance. "When I went into the water, I just came out of it without it," said Eugene Lyapmn. "I guess I just lost it somewhere in the water, and it probably just washing off into the drain."
Crews used a boat to carry the second driver to safety. Nobody was injured during either incident.
