8 Dallas Council Members Back Prop Tax Hike

The majority of the Dallas City Council has reached an un-official deal to hike the city's property tax rate by nearly a nickel. Eight of the 14 city council members sent a memo to City Manager Mary Suhm saying they'll back the increase because they're worried about what they describe as "...crumbling infrastructure, shuttered libraries, neglected parks and vacant recreation centers." The  council is due to meet on September 22nd to vote on a final budget and set the city's tax rate. Mayor Tom Leppert has said he will fight hard against any increase in property taxes because he fears that would only drive more businesses out of Dallas to nearby suburbs.
