Drought Improves in North Texas
The latest Drought Monitor was released today (Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011). There has been a marked improvement across North Texas thanks to the rain from this past weekend. Here is a look at rain totals from last weekend.
However, 99.83% of the state remains in a drought. Only portions of Red River County are not considered to be in a drought. But the severity of the drought has decreased over our portion of the state.
Here is a look at the drought across the state of Texas. The darkest red represents the worst classification of drought (Exceptional).
Now here is the drought mointor for North Texas. Note how areas north of I-20 are only considered to be in a Moderate Drought. That is the lowest classification of drought. But those areas near Palestine, Fairfield and Mexia remain in Exceptional Drought, the worst classification.
