DPD Officer Charged With Oppression On Administrative Leave

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas police officer was charged with oppression after a suspect spit on him.

It happened on June 8, when Sergeant Terrance Scott was called to a homeless shelter to arrest a man for acting belligerent.

Scott's attorney George Milner said the homeless man was a part of the Arian nation and began calling Scott, who is African American the "N" word.

"Finally the guy spits on my client. My client slapped him across the face a couple of times and they are trying to say that's oppression. It's absurd. He was defending himself. Spitting on someone is an assault," Milner said.

The homeless man was wanted on a burglary of a habitation warrant out of Denton.

Milner said Scott is a 25 year veteran of the department.

"He's got a perfect record with the Dallas Police Department. He's an impeccable officer."

Scott turned himself today and was charged with Official Oppression, a class A Misdemeanor. He is on administrative leave pending further investigation.
