District Attorney and GOP Rival Clash In Debate
With less than three weeks before the election, Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins and his Republican rival, Danny Clancy, went toe-to-toe in their final debate last night. Watkins charged that Clancy is distorting his record and trying to deceive the voters. For his part, Clancy contended that too many of the decisions made by Watkins are governed by political considerations. Watkins seemed to have the home-field advantage because the debate was held at Friendship West Baptist Church, the South Oak Cliff congregation where Watkins is a member. Many of those attending seemed to be Watkins supporters but they had to turn their campaign T-shirts inside out because the debate was sponsored by the League of Women's Voters which has rules about electioneering on-site.
