DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Students at more than 110 Dallas elementary schools will receive 16,000 t-shirts.
The numbers are big, and so is the message. The ultimate goal is to get more North Texas students to graduate.
At W.A. Blair Elementary School, nine and ten-year-olds received a shirt and motivation from a guy who sat in their same seats just a few years ago.
Anthony Green led the chant, "I will graduate. I will become somebody," along with classmates from Spruce High School, as they passed out shirts with the same message.
The "I will graduate" shirts were donated to fourth grade students in DISD. Aunesty Osteen, not only received a shirt, she accepted the challenge that comes with it.
"It's an immediate yes. Why is that? Because I want to have a good education, so I can have a good job, a live a great life," she said.
Dallas ISD parent Louisa Meyer calls it community pride building.
"We want it to be collective, and to be understood by all that its achievable for all, and we believe in you," she said.
The shirts are printed with the names of colleges on the back, the year of graduation on the front, and the neighborhood high school colors.
There is a Dallas ISD "I will graduate'' Facebook page and website. They're looking for more donors to help with purchasing more t-shirts.
