Dewhurst & McCraw Discuss Border Safety

AUSTIN (AP) - Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is joining state Public Safety Director Steven McCraw to discuss safety and other issues along the Texas-Mexico border.

At a joint appearance at the Capitol in Austin on Wednesday, the pair plans to detail the "impact of a recent border security operation."

Dewhurst, who presides over the Texas Senate, also will announce what specific border issues he'd like lawmakers to tackle ahead of the next legislative session that starts in January 2015.

The lieutenant governor is seeking re-election next year but has been challenged by three top Republicans for the GOP nomination.

Border security policy has played a role in that campaign. But it has been largely overshadowed by immigration as each of the four candidates seeks a harder line than the others on the issue.
