DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - As maintenance employees worked to beautify the CastleRock Apartments in Denton, an investigation into an ugly home invasion robbery continues.

"I just woke up to 7 or 8 shots right by the door and then that's all about all I heard a couple of minutes later cops came and knocked on the door and asked a few questions," says Cody Womack a neighbor who heard the commotion that ensued on Sunday evening.

Trails of blood on the ground floor of building 5 and along the staircase are a reminder to neighbors of the violent altercation that would end with 2 suspects Shot and killed, police say by the victims.

The complex near The University of North Texas caters to students from that school as well as others in the area but Denton police say the victims do not attend UNT. Neither do the suspects. In fact police say they aren't from Denton at all.

"We do know they tried to conceal their faces, said Officer Orlando Hinojosa with the Denton Police Department.

Investigators say there was a struggle inside the apartment. The two victims were also injured but their injuries were not life threatening. Two suspects did not survive.

"One was shot and killed inside, the other shot and killed outside, said Hinojosa.

At the crime scene, police recovered two guns, one they say belongs to victims, the other to the suspects. It's unclear how they know each other, if at all.

"I really feel weird about it. It puts negative energy on the complex," says resident and UNT student Natalie Michelle Ellsbury.

There have been 4 people killed in Denton in a span of 9 days. Maria Isabel Romero- medina's body was found in the office where she worked on December 12th.

A 16 year old was arrested for shooting and killing a 21 year old man last Monday. Less than a week later, these two suspects were killed, police say by their victims.

For some students living here at CastleRock, this might be too close for comfort. Ellsbury says her roommate went home for the holidays earlier than she had planned.

"The people that are here, I saw some others leave early as well. It makes me just feel kind of weird about staying here," she says.

Police are still looking for a third suspect they believe was also injured. The identities of those involved have not been released.
