Dallas Zoo Launches Wild Program At Children's Medical Center

DALLAS, TX (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Zoo has launched a wild new program at Children's Medical Center.

The Zoo's serval (African wildcat), tamandua (anteater) and penguin were part of the Simmons Animal Safari.  The animal visit was broadcast to patient rooms via the hospital's Red Balloon Network.

The Zoo also provided 300 tickets for patient families, a welcome diversion from dealing with illness or injury.

The Simmons Animal Safari was initiated by the Harold Simmons Foundation, which supports programs that promote human dignity, a safe and enriching environment, and comprehensive support systems for individuals, children, and families.  The Dallas Zoo is Texas' oldest and largest zoo and has been in existence for 126 years.
