Dallas Police Seek Family Of Pioneering Female Officer
DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police have asked the public to be on the lookout for descendants of a former member of their force they say was the first regularly commissioned female police officer in the United States.
Eva Farley received her captain's commission on Feb. 22, 1896.
The Dallas Police Department has planned a dedication ceremony to honor Farley and hopes to make contact with any of her relatives who might still live in North Texas.
Farley moved to Denison, Texas, from Mississippi around 1907. The DPD says it believes her maiden name was Cureton before she married John or Jack Farley in October 1889. He died sometime between 1900 and 1910.
She apparently married John Hubner in 1920 and may have moved to Los Angeles, dying in 1943.
