DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There is a safety alert for one Dallas neighborhood after two women were attacked within just minutes of each other. Police said that the incidents have some things in common, and people who live in the area believe that the circumstances are too similar to not be connected.
The first incident took place at 10:50 p.m. on Friday night at the Hilton Head Apartments along McCree Road. The victim was walking from her vehicle to her apartment unit when a man approached, grabbing her by putting his hand over her mouth and nose. The victim told authorities that she was able to fight back against the man, tripping him and causing them both to fall to the ground.
The second attack then happened just 15 minutes later at The Villas at La Risa along nearby Jupiter Road. In this incident, the woman was walking through the parking lot of the apartment complex when a man came and grabbed her from behind, trying to pull her behind a dumpster. She was pushed to the ground and, police said, she screamed and kicked until the man ran off.
A neighbor heard the commotion and came to help, but the suspect escaped. Police are still looking for that man, described by both women as wearing all black coveralls. The second victim said that the man had on black gloves, which was out of place on that warm Friday night.
"It's too hot," stated Katelynn Victorio, who lives nearby. "It should have been suspicious from the get-go, you know, coveralls, gloves. Somebody should automatically call and say, hey, suspicious person."
Quin Johnson lives in neighborhood, and is concerned. "The ladies could have been attacked and nobody even bothered to tell whether they heard it or seen anything," he said. "I mean, the fact that he's still out there, that's still a problem. But it's good to know there's people still out there that's willing to help."
Authorities have not confirmed that the two cases are connected, but that is being investigated given the timing, locations and similarities between the attacks.
