Dallas Infant Dies Waiting For Transplant

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas infant who desperately needed a transplant had died.

Four-month-old Sophia McVay passed away early Saturday morning.

The little girl suffered from a rare condition that caused her immune system to turn on her. She needed a liver transplant to survive.

CBS 11 first detailed Sophia's parents struggle to get her the needed transplant.

October Medicaid agreed to pay for the transplant evaluation after the family had fought with the government agency.

Two hospitals had told Sophia's mother that she was too sick for the transplant because of a virus.

A hospital in Washington D.C. agreed to perform the surgery but Medicaid in Texas refused to cover the procedure because it was experimental.

CBS 11 reached out to the McVay family for comment but they told us they would like to grieve in peace.
