Cowboys Player Jay Ratliff Arrested For DWI
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Another Dallas Cowboys player is facing legal troubles and allegations of driving while intoxicated.
Nose tackle, Jay Ratliff, who was inactive for most of the 2012 regular season with injury, was arrested early Tuesday morning by Grapevine Police after crashing his 2011 Ford F-150 into an 18-wheeler on 2800 East State Hwy 114.
According to police, officers observed signs of intoxication at the crash scene.
Police say Ratliff refused to take a breathalyzer or submit to a blood draw. Officers later obtained a warrant and then a blood sample. Results are pending.
Ratliff bonded out of jail about 10 hours after his arrest.
He is the second Dallas Cowboys player to be arrested for DWI in the past few months. Teammate Josh Brent was arrested for intoxication manslaughter in December, after a deadly one car crash in Irving that killed Cowboys practice squad player, Jerry Brown.
Brent was officially indicted by a Dallas County grand jury on Intoxication Manslaughter charges. According to the arrest report, Brent's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. The report also shows that Brent had an expired and suspended Illinois driver's license.
Brent was placed on the Cowboys inactive roster after his December 8 arrest.
There has been no trial date set in his case.
The Cowboys have a car service that is meant to provide 24-hour availability if a player has been drinking.
Brent and Ratliff played the same position on the Cowboys roster.
In December, Ratliff, a four-time Pro Bowler, underwent sports hernia surgery, after playing in only six games this past season.
