Dallas County Judge Asks Mayor For Lower Tax Rate

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas County Judge is asking mayors and school superintendents in Dallas County to come up with a tax relief plan.

With home appraisal values up all over north Texas, the tax obligations of homeowners are up as well. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins is asking Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings to consider lowering the city's tax rate.

"The increased appraisal values are going to hit the middle class the hardest. Middle class families have not seen their wages go up 10 percent so they shouldn't see their appraisals go up 10 percent," said Jenkins, who feels schools and certain governmental departments can get by with a little less money.

Jenkins said he hopes to gain support from other mayors in the county as well by July 1.
