Dallas Attorney Brian Loncar, 'The Strong Arm,' Found Dead

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Prominent Dallas attorney Brian Loncar, known as "The Strong Arm," was found unresponsive at his office Sunday morning.

Dallas police have confirmed that Loncar, 56, was found unresponsive in the front seat of his vehicle, which was parked in front of his law office.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Loncar was pronounced deceased at Baylor University Medical Center at 10:26 a.m.

There was a police presence at Loncar's office, in the 400 block of South Cesar Chavez in Dallas.

Loncar's death comes a little more than a week after the attorney's 16-year-old daughter Grace died. The family paid tribute to the teen, and in a Facebook post Loncar explained she had struggled with depression for years before taking her own life.

Dallas's legal community remains in shock from the news of Loncor's death. Rob Crain is the president-elect of the Dallas Bar Association. Crain says just as the public felt a special bond with Loncar from seeing him on television, local attorneys knew him well and have made an outpouring of support to his family.

Crain says as a personal injury attorney, Loncar knew all too well the tragedies of his clients before experiencing his own.

Loncar was also known as an advocate in Austin for protecting personal injury law against legislation to limit claims.

In a statement, Loncar's family said,

"Our family is filled with enormous sadness and profound grief following the death of our beloved son, husband, father, friend, colleague, neighbor, advisor, and a man trusted by many people in Dallas and throughout the state of Texas. We are shocked and numbed by these tragic events and ask the community and the news media to respect our privacy in this most difficult time. Right now, we are hurting and struggling to understand. Today, we are embracing each other; we know this pain and heartache will be with us forever."

Police have Loncar's death as "unexplained" and are still investigating.

The President of the Dallas Bar Association, Jerry Alexander released this statement Monday.

Mr. Loncar's death is most unfortunate and saddening. It is always sad when one of our members passes away. We have had 45 members pass on this year. This is especially tragic in the present circumstances. I did not know Mr. Loncar, but those who knew him personally speak of his commitment to his family. He was an active and generous member of our association.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they always are with our member's families who are grieving. As is our custom, the Memorial and History Committee will prepare a Memorial Resolution about Mr. Loncar to be adopted by the Board of Directors and delivered to his family.
