HOUSTON (CBS11) - The road to the White House is swinging through Houston ahead of Thursday night's debate.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Senator Marco Rubio campaigned in Houston Wednesday afternoon.

After coming in third place in Nevada Tuesday Tuesday night, Cruz says he's glad to be back at home in Houston and in the Lone Star State.

Governor Abbott welcomed Cruz to Mach Industrial where he endorsed him for President.

Cruz told Republicans here that he expects to do very well on Super Tuesday.

That includes Texas, which has 155 delegates.

But people in 11 other states, many in the south, are voting too.

I asked Cruz how confident he is that he'll come in either first or second place in all 12 states.

He told me, "I believe Super Tuesday will be a very good day for us. I think the terrain is very favorable and we're going to campaign hard. We're going to earn those votes. At the end of the day, it'll come down to the voters, it'll come down to who has the proven record."

Rubio also held a rally in Houston late in the afternoon.

His campaign says it now believes it's just a two man race between him and billionaire Donald Trump.

Establishment Republicans are rallying around Rubio, but many voters want an outsider this year.

A point Rubio seemed to acknowledge."You think you're angry with Washington? I have to work with them. And you see it. It's not that they're bad. They're not evil people who hate America. It's that they're more interested in winning the next election."

On Wednesday evening, Cruz and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson will be the two Republican presidential candidates to address Harris County Republicans at the Lincoln-Reagan Dinner.
Governor Abbott will introduce Cruz.

Cruz, Carson, and Rubio will join Trump and Ohio Governor John Kasich at Thursday night's debate at the University of Houston.

Former President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush will attend.
