Cowtown Marathon Cancels Saturday Races, Reschedules Sunday Races

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Snowy weather has forced organizers to cancel Saturday's Cowtown Marathon races, including the 10K, 5K and Cook Children's 5K.  Sunday's races have been moved to a new start time of 8 am.  Saturday's races will not be rescheduled.

"Participant safety is priority one and conditions don't appear favorable for today (Friday) and Saturday morning," said Heidi Swartz, Cowtown Executive Director. "We've spoken with city officials and the National Weather Service (NOAA) and feel confident that Sunday's events can proceed."

The Cowtown Expo is closed Friday, but will be open for 5 hours on Saturday so race participants can pick up their packets or do some shopping.  Saturday's hours are 1-6 pm.  Saturday race participants can also pick up their packets at the Expo.  Registration for Sunday's races, which includes the Marathon, Half-marathon and Ultra 50K, will also take place at the Expo.

"We encourage participants to carefully make their way to the expo on Saturday afternoon to shop and pick-up their packets," said Swartz. "Please come to the expo with your bib number and be patient as our volunteers assist you. Don't wait until Sunday morning, since we won't be able to accommodate everyone at packet pick-up just before start time," said Swartz.

All Sunday races have been rescheduled to start at 8 am, with wheelchair participants slated for a 7:50 am start.  On Sunday, the Expo will open at 5:30 am and remain open throughout the races.

"We are so grateful to the thousands of runners, volunteers, supporters and city employees who regularly participate in our event. Their dedication, patience and flexibility in times like these are invaluable," said Swartz.
