Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar Looks Like Backup For Now
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) -- Lance Dunbar was limited to special teams work in the training camp scrimmage for the Dallas Cowboys.
That's good news for the second-year running back. It means he's the backup to DeMarco Murray for now.
Dunbar says he doesn't "want to talk too fast, talk ahead right now" after a strong start to camp that has him ahead of Phillip Tanner and rookie Joseph Randle, a fifth-round pick who was expected to ascend to the backup role.
Randle has had a slow start to camp, but had his best day Sunday because it was his busiest day. He had his best run so far in one drill and scored the only touchdown of the scrimmage, which was limited to reserves.
The Cowboys didn't re-sign last year's backup, Felix Jones.
