Cowboys Back to Work, Can They Beat the Colts?

IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) - Seems like a long time ago that the Cowboys let one slip away against the Saints back on Thanksgiving.  I guess that's what happens when you have a Sunday off and watch ten hours of NFL games.  I have some thoughts on the Cowboys heading into the final month of the season.

It sure did seem like I saw a lot of guys running away from defenders with both arms around the football as they broke into the secondary on various plays yesterday.  The Roy Williams fumble still is a talking point and while countless replays show Williams with the ball firmly tucked in that left arm, he still fumbled at last check.  Michael Jenkins made one heckuva play, but that game appeared in the bag.  4-7 never looked so good.

Cowboys Draft Locator:   Shows that right now the Cowboys are in front of only Carolina, Buffalo, Cincinnati and Detroit and tied with Denver, and the loser of tonight's epic Monday night game between the 49ers and Cardinals.  Speaking of which, the winner of that game tonight will be one game out of first in the NFC West with Seattle on top at a paltry 5-6.  This is the same Seattle team that got drilled at home yesterday by the up and coming Chiefs.  Kansas City is now 7-4, and Dewayne Bowe is out of his mind good right now.  He leads the league in touchdowns with 13, and posted a 13/170  3 TD game yesterday.

The Cowboys get a Colts team this week that is suddenly a mess.  No blocking up front, partly because of injuries, and guys trying to catch passes that I've never heard of, for the most part.  Peyton Manning has thrown 7 picks in two games and is shell shocked when he goes back to pass.  The Colts are fighting for their lives in the AFC South and obviously thrilled that Jacksonville spit the bit against the Giants yesterday.

Speaking of the AFC South, is there any dirtier player in the league than Titan's cornerback Courtland Finnegan?  That guy should be suspended for a month for his ridiculous hands to the face assault on Andre Johnson yesterday.  It won't happen, but Finnegan has been doing that cheap dirty stuff for years.  Look for both to get suspended for that play which saw both players lose their helmets and then duke it out like a hockey fight.

We saw the "freeze" in games yesterday as the Steelers were among the teams that called the last second time out before a game tying/winning kick.  I don't have any problem with the rule.  We just make a big deal out of it if the kicker makes the first one. Plus, you cannot take that right away from a team that might need to call one for a more legitimate reason.

Does anyone remember that the Super Bowl is going to be played here in a little over two months?  That's the game the Cowboys were gunning for back in....oh never mind.
