Cool Weather for The Weekend
We started this Friday morning with some low-level moisture streaming up from the south ahead of a cold front just to our west. This moisture created fog along the southern edge of the metroplex, low clouds elsewhere. It also helped keep the temperatures up overnight; lows this morning staying in the upper 30's where the fog/clouds were reported. Lows got below freezing north of the metro under mostly clear skies.
Today a cold front arrives just before the noon hour. Winds will back to the northeast as the low clouds clear but partly sunny skies are expected all afternoon. Highs will top out in the low 50's with a northeast wind at 10-15mph.
Tonight those northeast winds continue. During the evening temperatures drop through the 40's, you'll need a winter coat if you are heading out. Saturday will start with a chill, lows in the upper 20's. Partly sunny skies by afternoon won't be able to warm us out of the 40's thanks to the that NE wind.
Sunday more clouds with rain down to the southwest of us. Highs only get to the low 50's and an east, southeast wind. Light rain might get to our southern counties by afternoon, from Granbury over to Hillsboro. That rain is headed into the rest of north Texas on Monday. Clouds will park overhead for the start of the work week. Rain chances pick up on Tuesday but a south wind will allow temperatures to get us in the low 60's. On Wednesday perhaps some storms around with highs in the upper 60's. A front comes through on Wednesday night, clearing us out for Thursday and bringing the rain to an end.
Below you can see how the HPC puts another decent rain in north Texas, certainly helping with the drought situation:
